A country radio station in Oklahoma recently faced criticism from its audience and people worldwide for refusing to play Beyoncé’s latest country single, “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

The controversy began when a listener, who goes by the handle @jussatto on X (formerly Twitter), requested the song from 100.1 KYKC, only to be told, “We do not play Beyoncé on KYKC as we are a country music station.”

In response, the listener shared a screenshot of the station’s reply, sparking outrage within the Beyhive community and prompting others to join in the call for action.

“This station needs to be held accountable for their blatant racism and discrimination against Beyoncé,” the listener posted on X. “@1001KYKC This is absolutely ridiculous and racist. You guys should be ashamed. I grew up listening to your station.”

Encouraging others to email the radio station to request the song, the post gained significant traction, with Beyoncé fans worldwide expressing their support.

“I’m all the way in Botswana, but I’m sending in that email. No to discrimination,” wrote one user, while another urged fellow fans to stand up against the station’s refusal.

Despite initial resistance, the station eventually agreed to play the song after receiving thousands of emails and phone calls. General Manager Roger Harris admitted they were unaware of Beyoncé’s foray into country music and apologized for their oversight.

“We love Beyoncé. We just didn’t know about the song…Now that she’s coming out as a country artist, we want to be all over it,” Harris stated.

This incident highlights the influence of social media in bringing about change and underscores the importance of standing up for what one believes in.
