This is a heartwarming story of co-parenting: my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn, despite being divorced for 28 years. My mom struggles with bad knees, and my stepdad often works out of town. When my younger siblings asked, ‘Why is your dad mowing mom’s lawn?’ I explained, ‘Because she needed help, and he knew she couldn’t do it, so he did.’ This is co-parenting.
I feel incredibly lucky to have four parents who respect each other and understand that what matters most is showing kindness and love to family, regardless of how it came together. My dad, humbled by the attention this story has received, wants everyone to know, ‘I’m no saint.’ He simply wants to inspire others to choose kindness whenever possible, even if you’re not acting like an angelic pastor on Lent.
