Renowned Star Trek figure William Shatner, aged 91, recently delved into his reflections on life in an interview preceding the debut of his documentary, “You Can Call Me Bill.” Shatner acknowledged the limited time he has left but expressed his determination to create this documentary as a means to connect with his grandchildren posthumously. He emphasized the importance of leaving behind a legacy for his loved ones to remember him by. Shatner takes pride in being a grandfather to five grandchildren from his three previous marriages.
Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, the documentary is set to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas. Shatner’s daughters, Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie, also feature prominently in the film. Reflecting on his grandchildren, Shatner previously shared with The Guardian in 2014 how the role of grandparenting brought him immense joy, highlighting the significance of spending quality time with them and imparting wisdom gained from his extensive career.
Shatner made headlines recently for reconnecting with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Martin, three years after their separation, marked by a notable $2 million divorce. Their public appearance at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Beverly Hills in January sparked interest, with both expressing their revived affection for each other. Describing their relationship as “cinnamon,” Elizabeth Martin emphasized Shatner’s zest for life. The couple finalized their divorce in March 2020, with Shatner retaining his Studio City residence and California ranch, while Elizabeth received properties in Malibu Cove and Versailles, Kentucky, along with a share of her family’s farm in Indiana.
