We are republishing a remarkable event that occurred in June 2018.
Nana Chaichanhda repeatedly expressed her gratitude, saying, “I owe Sasha my life.”
In the quiet hours of the night, a fire broke out in Nana’s apartment complex while the neighborhood slept. Recognizing the imminent danger, Sasha, Nana’s 8-month-old pit bull, who was unusually outside that night, began barking and scratching at the back door around 11 pm. Sensing something amiss, Nana investigated, only to discover Sasha urgently leading her towards the bedroom where her 7-month-old baby, Masailah, lay sleeping.
Nana quickly realized that a neighboring unit was ablaze and the fire was spreading rapidly. With Sasha already trying to pull Masailah by her diaper off the bed, Nana swiftly gathered her children and evacuated. Thanks to Sasha’s timely alert, they managed to escape unharmed and warn their neighbors. Emergency services were called, but despite their efforts, the building was eventually destroyed by the fire.
Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Nana expressed deep gratitude to Sasha, acknowledging that without her dog’s intervention, the outcome could have been far worse. She marveled at Sasha’s protective instincts, especially towards Masailah, noting the special bond they shared since birth. The entire neighborhood joined Nana in recognizing Sasha’s heroism, knowing that her actions had saved lives that night.
