At a recent school board meeting in Loudoun County, a teacher made headlines by resigning in a dramatic fashion and criticizing the district’s emphasis on Critical Race Theory.
Laura Morris, who worked at Lucketts Elementary School, delivered a passionate resignation speech in which she expressed her dissatisfaction with the district’s focus on ‘equity trainings’ and political issues.
In her heartfelt address, Morris explained that she could no longer align herself with the district’s ideologies, which she felt were at odds with her Christian values. She conveyed that, despite the district’s resources and wealth, she felt unable to continue teaching there.

Morris also voiced her concerns about how the district handled public feedback, criticizing the restrictive nature of the public comment periods at board meetings. She was frustrated by the superintendent’s discouragement of opposing viewpoints and the pressure to report colleagues who disagreed with board policies.
Morris shared her experiences from equity trainings, where she was told that as a ‘white, Christian, able-bodied female,’ she represented a privileged group within the school system, which she was told needed to be addressed. She claimed that she could no longer accept being part of a system that she believes imposes political agendas on students.
She ended her resignation by directly addressing the school board, announcing her departure from their policies and training, and encouraging parents and staff to seek alternative educational options like private schools.
The Loudoun County School District chose not to comment on Morris’s resignation, but the district has been a focal point in the debate over Critical Race Theory (CRT) in education. CRT has been a contentious topic, with debates over whether it fosters division or provides a necessary critique of American racial history.
The school board has also been involved in other controversies, such as the suspension of physical education teacher Byron ‘Tanner’ Cross for his refusal to use students’ preferred pronouns, which led to a court ruling for his reinstatement with an appeal pending. Additionally, the board has been considering policies related to transgender students’ access to sex-specific facilities, a decision that has generated extensive public discussion and has been delayed for further review.
In summary, Morris’s resignation highlights ongoing conflicts over CRT and other contentious educational issues. Her departure illustrates the broader challenges of balancing differing perspectives and beliefs in public school systems.
