In a stunning turn of events that seems almost unbelievable, a turtle crashed through the windshield of a moving vehicle in Savannah, Georgia, on May 12, 2020. Remarkably, the two people in the car, Latonya Lark and Kevin Grant, managed to escape serious injury despite the dramatic accident.

The unusual event occurred while Lark and Grant were driving north on Harry S Truman Parkway as they were out running errands. Suddenly, a turtle collided with their car’s windshield, causing it to crack but not break completely through.

Describing the shocking moment, Lark shared, “I thought it was a brick, and I told my brother, ‘my God, there’s a brick!'” Both siblings were initially stunned by the impact and the resulting shower of glass.

Grant, who works as a licensed cosmetologist, recounted his reaction: “When the glass broke, the first thing that came to my mind was to shield myself. So I just tried to turn and cover myself.”

Lark suspected that the turtle had been struck by another vehicle ahead of them and was flung into their car as a result.

After the incident, the siblings pulled over and contacted authorities. The police report indicated that the damage to the car was severe enough that it could no longer be driven and required towing.

Lark pointed out that the thickness of the windshield and her quick response played crucial roles in avoiding a more severe outcome. She reflected, “The police officer said that if the windshield hadn’t been as sturdy or if I hadn’t reacted so quickly, things could have turned out much worse.”

While the turtle was initially alive after the accident, it unfortunately lost one of its legs and later succumbed to its injuries due to significant blood loss.

Following the accident, Lark issued a cautionary message to other drivers, urging them to stay alert on the roads. She noted that inattentive drivers could lead to such unexpected and bizarre incidents.

“This situation shows how important it is to pay attention while driving,” Lark warned. “Whoever hit that turtle must have been going very fast.”
