A French Bride’s Dilemma: Uninviting Her Aunt from Post-Wedding Celebrations
A French woman turned to Reddit to seek advice on whether she was in the wrong for disinviting her aunt from her post-wedding events, even though her aunt had traveled a great distance to attend the celebrations. The bride, who is marrying a South African man, found herself in a difficult position during her wedding weekend.
The couple had carefully organized a small, private wedding at a secluded savanna lodge in South Africa, inviting just 30 guests, including 13 family members from France. Their intention was to keep the event intimate, inviting only their closest loved ones to both the wedding ceremony and a pool party the following day. They had rented a lodge that could accommodate 10 people for the weekend.
In an effort to reconcile after eight years of estrangement, the bride decided to invite her aunt, despite the wedding’s limited size and the fact that there was no room for additional guests. She made it clear to her aunt that while she was welcome to attend, her aunt’s husband and child could not be included, as the couple was not familiar with them. The bride hoped that the presence of familiar family members would make her aunt feel at ease.
