Céline Dion And Lady Gaga Captivate Audiences At The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

Céline Dion made a memorable comeback at the Paris Olympic Games with a breathtaking performance that captivated the audience.

The iconic singer concluded the ceremony on Friday with an emotional interpretation of Edith Piaf’s beloved song, “L’Hymne à l’amour,” performed from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Dion showcased her exceptional talent, delivering powerful vocals and hitting impressive high notes. Her appearance was accentuated by a beautiful white beaded gown with tassels, fitting for the grand event.

After the performance, Kelly Clarkson, who was commentating for NBC, was momentarily speechless before praising Dion as a “vocal athlete.”

This performance marked Dion’s first live appearance since she revealed her struggle with stiff person syndrome, a rare and progressive condition affecting the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord.

In December 2022, Dion announced a temporary hiatus from her professional activities to focus on her health due to the syndrome, which had impacted her ability to perform as usual.

Dion’s previous live performance was in March 2020 in New Jersey. The Olympics also featured Lady Gaga, who paid tribute to French music hall star Zizi Jeanmaire by performing “Mon truc en plume” along the Seine river.

Last month, Dion spoke candidly about living with stiff person syndrome while promoting her new documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion,” on Amazon.

In an interview with NBC’s Hoda Kotb, Dion described how singing with her condition feels “like someone is strangling you,” explaining the impact of the syndrome, which causes involuntary spasms and muscle rigidity affecting her abdomen, spine, and ribs.

“I’ve had broken ribs at times because of the severity of the condition,” the Grammy winner shared. Despite these difficulties, Dion has remained resilient. She made a notable appearance at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, presenting the final trophy of the night.

In her documentary, Dion expressed her resolve to continue performing. “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl,” she said. “And I won’t stop. I won’t stop.”
