Family Supports Father Who Declined To Allow Police To Break Window As Infant Perished In Hot Vehicle

Revised Story from October 2020

In Las Vegas, a father was detained by authorities after he obstructed officers from breaking into his vehicle to rescue his infant daughter, who was in distress, according to officials.

Sydney Deal, aged 27, drew police attention after leaving his one-year-old daughter, Sayah Deal, inside his car during a hot afternoon. The car keys were still inside the vehicle.

Despite the officers’ offers to either break the window, call a locksmith, or arrange a tow truck, Deal declined, insisting instead that they contact his brother.

Shortly afterward, officers decided to break the window to retrieve Sayah, who was found unresponsive and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The precise cause of Sayah’s death remains unclear, but authorities suspect she had been trapped in the car for more than an hour.

KVUU reported that Deal’s brother informed detectives that Deal had called him, stating he had accidentally locked Sayah inside the car but mentioned that the air conditioning was on. Confused by the situation, his brother hurried to the scene.

Upon arrival, Deal’s brother offered to break the window using his shirt, but Deal declined, citing financial concerns for repairs. Instead, Deal asked his brother to contact their mother so her insurance could arrange for a locksmith.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Deal’s girlfriend attempted to call the insurance company, but Deal instructed her to hang up because he disagreed with the tow truck’s quoted price.

Deal was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of child abuse or neglect resulting in substantial bodily harm. His bond was set at $20,000.
