Revisiting a Tragic Story from January 2016
Josh Gray, a 17-year-old student at Dawson High School in Texas, visited the nurse’s office with a stomach ache. Tragically, within just two hours, he passed away, according to KHOU.
Doctors reported that Josh’s pancreas was severely affected by a ruptured artery, leading to uncontrollable bleeding, which they could not stop. The suddenness of the event left them unable to predict or prevent the outcome.
Josh’s mother, Laurie Gray, shared with KHOU, “He went from a regular day at school, happy and normal, to having a stomach ache and, in just two hours, no longer being with us.”
In the wake of this sudden loss, Josh’s family and friends launched an online fundraiser to cover expenses related to his death and to support research for rare diseases. Their GoFundMe campaign has already exceeded its $30,000 goal, raising over $34,000.
Austin Hurst, a friend of Josh, reflected, “Josh loved everyone for who they were. I’m loud and obnoxious, and he loved that about me. He appreciated us all just as we are. That’s what made being around him so special; you could truly be yourself.”
Josh’s friends intend to continue with the summer mission trip he had planned.
Seth Blunt, another friend, expressed, “We all loved Josh. He’s a part of us.”
