The emergency teams attempted to rescue the 21-year-old mother trapped inside, but they were unable to reach her in time.

Firefighters later found her deceased in an upstairs bedroom. An autopsy revealed that smoke inhalation was the cause of death.

The fire department expressed their condolences and encouraged donations for Carter’s family in a Facebook post.

Carter’s cousin, Shawna Burwell, mentioned: “Her 21st birthday was yesterday, and on Facebook, she had shared what a wonderful birthday it was. This morning on Snapchat, I saw ‘loving these mommy moments,’ with the baby resting on her chest.”
