An incident originally reported in July 2017 has tragically resulted in the death of a 13-year-old Indiana boy, Noah Inman. While playing basketball with friends around 9:30 p.m., Noah suddenly collapsed. Initially thought to be a seizure, doctors later determined he had been struck by a falling bullet, fired into the sky in the vicinity. Despite medical efforts, Noah passed away several days later.
Authorities have concluded that the bullet was likely discharged as a form of celebratory gunfire, akin to fireworks. The Hammond Police Department issued a stern statement emphasizing the serious consequences of such actions and urged the public to limit their Fourth of July celebrations to legal fireworks.
Following Noah’s death, Hammond police extended condolences to the Inman family and expressed solidarity in their time of grief. They also appealed for information regarding the incident, as the shooter remains unidentified.
Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. lamented the tragedy, describing Noah’s family as a respected part of the community and emphasizing the reckless nature of firing guns into the air.
Noah’s baseball team paid tribute to him during games that weekend, honoring his memory with his initials and jersey number on their caps. His coach fondly remembered Noah as an exemplary player known for his dedication and positive attitude.
