The school board has also been involved in other controversies, such as the suspension of physical education teacher Byron ‘Tanner’ Cross for his refusal to use students’ preferred pronouns, which led to a court ruling for his reinstatement with an appeal pending. Additionally, the board has been considering policies related to transgender students’ access to sex-specific facilities, a decision that has generated extensive public discussion and has been delayed for further review.
