A family in Scotland is offering a salary of over $63,000 for a full-time housekeeper, with the unique condition that the candidate must be comfortable living alongside supernatural occurrences.
The family placed an advertisement on Childcare.co.uk seeking a live-in nanny. They have two children aged 5 and 7 and reside in a “charming, spacious, historic property in a secluded location with breathtaking views.”
The responsibilities include typical childcare duties such as preparing breakfast, getting the children ready for school, dropping off and picking them up, assisting with homework, and preparing them for bedtime. Due to the parents’ frequent work-related travel, the nanny would manage the household alone up to four nights per week.
In addition to the generous salary and 28 vacation days, the family offers a private room with an en-suite bathroom and a personal kitchen for qualified applicants.
However, there’s a twist: toward the end of the job listing, it’s disclosed that the family’s home, where they have resided for nearly a decade, is reputed to be haunted.
“We were informed about its ‘haunted’ status when we purchased it, but we approached it with an open mind and decided to buy it anyway,” explained the mother.
While the family claims they haven’t personally encountered any supernatural events, several previous nannies have departed after reporting eerie incidents like strange noises, broken glass, and furniture moving.
“This has understandably been unsettling for our children. Despite not witnessing any supernatural occurrences ourselves, these incidents have only been reported while we were away from the house,” the post reveals.
Despite these challenges, the family remains optimistic, offering an above-average salary and emphasizing transparency to attract the right candidate.
The advertisement received an overwhelming response, with over 2,000 inquiries and applications flooding in.
Childcare.co.uk CEO Richard Conway described the family’s situation as “the most intriguing story we’ve encountered.”
“When we first saw the ad, we were astonished,” Conway remarked. “Although some of our team were skeptical initially, after speaking with the family and their previous employees, we confirmed the authenticity of the position.”
He added, “The family assures us that no harm has befallen anyone residing in the house, but the nanny must possess a strong disposition.”
