CNN commentator and former Obama advisor Van Jones offered high praise for President Biden on Wednesday, describing him as a ‘hero’ who made a significant personal sacrifice for the greater good by withdrawing from the presidential race.
Jones, visibly emotional, remarked, “The person with a stutter did remarkably well. He really did. That’s an admirable person. He made a selfless decision. Most heroes fight until the end, but he made a sacrifice.”
In his address from the Oval Office on Wednesday evening, Biden did not directly explain his decision to step back from the re-election race but mentioned it was time for ‘new voices.’ He affirmed that he would complete his first term.
Jones, touched by Biden’s speech, reflected, “He questioned if character still holds value, and it certainly does tonight.”
He added, “Although he’s older, his heart remains strong. His speech might not be as sharp, but his affection is evident. It’s important to note the contrast with another leader who refused to relinquish power regardless of the situation.”
Jones contrasted Biden with former President Trump, stating, “There was someone who stayed in power even in the face of an insurrection and ignored the will of the people. In contrast, Biden is demonstrating that character matters by choosing to gracefully step aside and prioritize the public good.”
He concluded with admiration, saying, “I truly respect him.”
Biden’s Oval Office address followed a challenging debate performance against Trump. Despite intense pressure from Democrats and liberal media to withdraw, Biden remained firm until Sunday, maintaining his commitment to the race.
He eventually stepped down, receiving significant praise from many who had previously feared his candidacy could enable Trump to secure another term.
The White House has yet to respond to requests for comment.
