A Surprising Gesture

Last year, the customer, named Eric Smith, left a waitress, Mariana Lambert, an astonishing $3,000 tip on a bill of just $13 at Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Smith had ordered a plate of stromboli and reportedly gave the large tip as part of a social media trend known as “Tips For Jesus.”

While the staff at the pizza place were initially doubtful due to the tip’s size, their excitement grew when the credit card payment was successfully processed. Lambert was deeply touched by the gesture, stating to WNEP: “It really meant a lot to me because everyone’s going through stuff. It really touched my heart. I still can’t believe it. I’m still in shock.”

A Troubling Turn

However, the situation quickly soured when the restaurant received notice that Smith had disputed the tip charge. Despite having already paid Lambert, Smith claimed it was a misunderstanding and demanded the $3,000 be returned!

The restaurant attempted to resolve the issue by reaching out to Smith through Facebook, but he ceased communication. With no other options, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe decided to pursue legal action to recover the $3,000.

Zachary Jacobson, the restaurant manager, expressed frustration, saying: “We thought someone was genuinely trying to do a good deed. Now, after just a few months, we’re left with nothing.”

Jacobson added (according to Newsful): “It’s really aggravating. It’s been a lot of unnecessary drama.”

With the situation unresolved, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe filed charges through the magistrate’s office, hoping Smith would take responsibility.
