A man, deeply upset by the tragic loss of his dog due to a speeding driver, decided to post a warning sign in his yard to alert drivers about the dangers of speeding in his neighborhood.
The sign, placed on his lawn, included a stern message for motorists:
“We buried our dog last week because you won’t slow down,” it stated. “If you hit one of my children, your family might be burying you.”
The image of the sign was shared on Reddit and quickly gained widespread attention.
“Why do people speed through residential areas and parking lots? What’s the logic behind it?” one Redditor commented on the post.
Many readers supported the man’s efforts to promote road safety.
“Great sign. People drive way too fast in neighborhoods. Anything over 20 mph is too fast. There are kids on bikes, playing in their yards, and balls that end up in the street. It’s a major issue because people are just careless,” one commenter wrote on Facebook.
“Absolutely! One of my dogs was run over by a driver who didn’t even slow down. It could just as easily be a child,” another added.
“If drivers would just slow down, they’d get to their destination without issues because the destination won’t leave before they get there,” noted another.
Conversely, some readers felt the dog’s owners were at fault for not controlling their pet.
“I don’t feel sorry for them. In my neighborhood, people let their dogs and cats roam freely. My dogs stay on my property,” one reader stated.
“Keep your dog on a leash! If you truly cared about your pet, you would ensure it’s safely contained,” another commented.
“Isn’t it your responsibility to manage your dog? If it was under control, this wouldn’t have happened,” a third reader pointed out.
“Speeding is an issue, but it’s also your duty to keep your dog and kids safe from the street,” another added.
“I’m sorry for your loss, but your dog should be in a fenced yard or on a leash,” said another reader.
