An old commercial featuring a Marine guard and a young boy recently went viral.
In the 1997 clip, a young boy approaches a Marine guard and inquires if he is Santa Claus. Despite the boy’s attempts to engage, the guard does not respond or make eye contact. The boy then presents his Christmas list, hoping the guard will help with his holiday wishes. To everyone’s surprise, the guard extends his left hand and accepts the list from the child.
This poignant commercial is part of the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys For Tots campaign.
Founded in 1947, the Toys For Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December to distribute to underprivileged children, according to NX2.
The initiative aims to deliver “a message of hope to less fortunate children and help them grow into responsible, productive, and patriotic adults.”
One viewer commented, “It’s one of the few Christmas commercials I actually enjoy.”
Another viewer shared, “Even though the video is just 30 seconds long, I’ve watched it many times, and it always brings tears to my eyes.”
